It probably hasn’t escaped your attention that there’s currently a
General Election campaign going on. Every day until May 6th we’re
going to be bombarded with spin, criticism and opinions from all
angles as politicians and the media alike try and influence which
box we’re going to put our cross in. One thing that I’ve noticed this campaign more than others is the sheer number of opinion polls trying to show us the current state of the parties. Watching one of the 24-hour news channels the other day I counted no less than seven different ones, all of which showed different figures! Inspired by the thought of manipulating numbers, we’ve got a small quiz for you this month on that theme. Consider the following digits: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 All you need to do is place three mathematical symbols between these digits so that the result equals 100.You must use exactly three symbols. You may repeat the same symbol, but each repeat counts towards the limit of three. No re-arranging of the numbers is allowed!
